Dear Mother & Daddy,

Well, the house deal is in the machine. We're waiting on the FHA appraiser. They come in "3 to 6 weeks" ~ no appointment, no E.T.A. We're leaving the key with the lady across the street.

Today we got a free rug, a 12x15 [?] wool tweed in a restful green, It's a little worn & dirty, because they never bothered to turn it. It's nice & warm though, & will tide us over until we finish chopping down walls & re-arranging doors, & are ready to put the cork tile down. Bare hardwood floors are a little too rugged for Pooh. I bought some lamps, too. One of the girls at work is moving to Arizona, & since her family is in the furniture business, they're planning to buy all new stuff when they get to Ariz. This place is really going to be havoc while we're remodeling. We're going to concentrate on the outside this summer, mainly filling th lot, moving the fence out for a bigger back yard, & rasing the garage floor & driveway.

The roof should be stained, too, a nice dark green. It should be quite a trick to get all those things done before it starts to rain.

Sun. 5-31-59 We got Pooh's birthday present early, a tricycle. We lowered the seat & bars as far as they'd go, but her legs are still about 6 in. too short. She loves to sit on it & be pushed around the house at breakneck speed.

Wed. 6-3-59 All your packages arrived & we really enjoyed all the goodies. The clothes fit Pooh right now. She is not a delicate baby, rather robust, well-rounded, & solid. Those all-in-one suits are really convenient. The Drypers also were gratefully received but I think that if you look around carefully you will find the pants floating around at your end of the line. We searched all the wrapping carefully, but no could find.

The goodies from Mexico were really something. Jim sends many thanks for his tie slide. About the mantilla, you

really hit it there. Last Sun. on the way home from church, we were discussing a mantilla that sat in front of us, a black one. I was telling Jim how I'd wanted one for years, & I've decided that a white one would be best. So, you see, my reaction was not quite as you described it. I will really get a lot of use & enjoyment out of it. Pooh is enjoying her slingshot right now. She won't be able to wear the medal for quite some time. She chews on everything, & finds gold particularly attractive.

Tues. Pooh's birthday was well marked. We dressed her up in the white dress with the blue smocking that you sent. We fixed her a cake, a pink cupcake with one candle. She threw the cupcake away & tried to eat the candle, but we got some pictures, of her with the cake & on the new trike. She sends many thanks for the red monkey with the nonremovable eye-balls. We call him George. That face kind of grows on you.

About our vacation. It will probably start around Aug. 3. We can't be too sure of the exact date because of our same problem of both getting off at the same time. Hopefully, if there is any conflict, I will have enough overtime to cover any needed time off. We do plan to come through Beverly Hills & spend a day at the beginning of our vacation. We plan to spend most of it in Tucson, where we spent most of our honeymoon. We know a nice, reasonable place to stay, where they love kids & have a good pool. I hope to teach Pooh to swim. Also we have accumulated some friends in that area. We need a few days of loafing. This is our first vacation in 2 years. Jim is rebuilding the engine in the car, & we plan to build Pooh a platform, folding-type, to convert the whole backseat into a play area. She wiggles too much to consider any other arrangement. We don't even consider taking the truck, as the cab

5 would be more than a little cramped with the 3 of us & no room for Pooh to move around. Also, because of the truck engine, there is a mild whine that really gets to you & stays with you after a long distance.

About the furniture & things which you suggested we pick up. We will probably be able to accomodate a few things in the car, but we really have no room for that furniture in this small house. Someday, when we have a bigger house & more kids & bedrooms, it would be very nice, & thank you for offering it. I hope that the offer is still good at that later date.

Hope Daddy's carbunckles are healing rapidly so that he will be able to have that much needed patch-up job, & be able to sit comfortably, too. That destiny, which shapes our ends evidently is pretty trickey stuff.

Thank you very much for all the nice things you sent.

Love, Marcia
