Today we are to meet the
University of California, in the
most important game of the year.
What the game between Harvard and
Yale is to the Easteners, the
Stanford-California game is to
us on the Pacific shore.

Our friends the enemy are already
here in force, and more are
coming by every train. We have
thrown the hall open to them. The
boots of the men tramp through the
corridor, and the skirts of our
fair foe sweep the sacred floor
of the club-room. We like you,
California, but we are going to
beat you.
