Dear Mama:

I am always glad when I
come in about six o'clock and find
my home letters on Thursday or Friday.
For though I know they will come,
yet I don't think much about them
till I find them on the table.

This week I've had the great
pleasure of going among the book
shelves in the library and looking
up books myself. This pleasure is
only allowed Post-graduates, profes-
sors, etc. It happened this way.
Professor Brown asked me to look up
a topic for the Art Club which met
last Friday evening, and so he went
through the necessary red tape in
order that I might have access to the
necessary books. My subject was the
"Historical Development of the Line".
Professor Brown spoke on the philosopy
of the line; and Miss Ames, the assist-
ant art teacher, gave a short sketch
on Howard Pyle who is one of the
illustrators of the day and whose
subjects are quaint illustrations of
fairy stories and other stories.
Something like the illustrations of
Elsie who represented thye months in
the Youth Companion.

Then we looked at illustrations
and learned something about the good
and bad use of lines in drawing,
making rather a helpful and pleasant
evening.
