Stanford University

Mar. 24, 1905
Evening

Dear Gladys: —

The funeral is
all over. Mrs. Stanfords body lies at
rest in the Mausoleum beside those
of her husband and son. Stanford
University entertained more people
today on the campus than have
ever been here before or ever will
be again for some time to come.
The funeral took place in the
Memorial Church. Services were
simple and quite brief. They began
at 1:30 P. M. and closed at the
Mausoleum at 4 P. M.

One of the floral pieces was a
fine representation of the Memorial
Church, all of flowers. Another was
one of the arches at the ends of the
Quad beautifully designed in many
different kinds of flowers.

The Rev. D. Charles Gardner, the
chaplain of the University. Mrs.
Stanford's favorite minister and the
one whom she wished to preach her
funeral sermon, was taken ill with
typhoid shortly before Mrs. Stanfords
death and even now is quite weak
and fearful of the results of the
shock of her death. he has not been
