12:30 AM Wake up + start thinking about near-term investments. Here's a summary of "decisions"

1) I don't need any more small-cap tech stock due to Planet Out and I don't need any small cap stocks in general because I've seen that they don't outperform the whole market, probably because they include lots of old stable small companies. [side note] and I love [illegible] more than small cap techs as a whole [/side note]

2) I do want more mid-cap tech stocks, in any industry, such as medical devices, nanotech, imaging, etc. Because I can + will get a lot of these via NASDAQ 100 ETF, I should print out info sheets on all 100 and see their range of cap'n and (small) number of profitable years.

3) Because I'm also not interested in selecting stocks by growth vs value and doing so with industry as a proxy for risk is inaccurate, I believe selecting with a screen of company age will be best. And I believe the NASDAQ 100 gets me newer companies than the NYSE. Confirm this by finding the minimal listing requirements of NYSE.

4) If the smallest cap of the companies in the NASDAQ 100 is $1B or so, then I will be done with buying. Otherwise I may want to consider setting up a personal index fund of NASDAQ tech stocks. [Later I decided to use calvert small cap]

5) Buy the calvert small-cap fund at ML to get the functionality of social activism for some of the small cap stocks that I own, thereby making use of my ML free assets

6) Wait until Jan 2005 to make the first investments

in NASDAQ 100 at Schwab

in Calvert mid cap at ML

because I did

US market in 2002-3, and

overseas [market] in 2004.

Now I will start to focus on small cap tech social activism but not the microcap of either because overall the market is only fairly price, not underpriced, so risk may be too high for me since I don't "love" like PNO.

7) From the printouts of the NASDAQ 100, pick another stock, perferably a mid cap, to help assess market value of NASDAQ, along with Yahoo. Guidant?

8) Set up two "Big Data" pages probably like this:

Page 6: PNO Price + Rel PNO EPS + Rel } Yahoo same

Page 7: NASDAQ 100 Price + Rel } "That" stock Price + Rel + EPS + Rel (or comcast as of 12-5-2004?) } Calvert small cap Price + Rel

a) Chart PNO and Yahoo price relative to market on one chart

b) Chart PNO and Yahoo P/E + P/E relative to GE on one chart

c) Chart NASDAQ + "That" stock Rel Mkt price on one chart

d) Chart "That" stock P/E + Rel P/E

e) Chart Calvert small cap on same chart as Ext'd market for price relative to market

12-6-2004 9) Own about 20,000 of Yahoo and "That Stock" (Guidant, Amgen, Comcast, etc) at Schwab to get proxies as I do GE.

11am Back to room. Shower + pack + checkout

12pm Taxi to airport. Slow check-in line. Re-read St. Barts

2pm Flight is delayed (supposed to be 2:20). Review recent writing.

3pm Jerry + Wayne show up and they go to get rum drinks for us. We board flight to Phillipsburg. Read Liat Airways Magazine, about the different islands and political affiliations + currents. See Marina Cay again from my seat. Get taxi after collecting luggage. Twenty minute ride to Voyageur Boat which leaves dock in Marigot. Eat swordfish pocket + chicken pocket sandwiches with straw-banana.

6:20 Boat leaves Marigot and heads west to pass between St Marten and Anguilla, and then east + south toward St. Barts. Rough sea, and boat is tossing + turning. Most of the patrons look like locals are the boat carries packages as well. At one point I walk to the open back part of boat with some difficulty, but seeing the rough sea passing by scares me so I go back inside.

Also I see a copy of St. Barth Weekly at front of boat, so I struggle up to front to get two copies of that. It says its an English summary of top stories of our French newspaper "Le Journal de St. Barth". Printed weekly on Fridays.
