Prior to October 4 I had only set-up AT EGA card played with windows and studied example applications in programmers guide. Also took 3 trips to LA and decided I didnt want to move there.

Next 1/2 quarter had six busy weekends exercised 26250 stock options moved char-based multiplan 2.00 onto my AT (relearning microsoft cand environment resurrecting windows version of MAC multiplan occasional preliminary windows work design meetings at which I wasnt vocal at all and resolved review by Bill Gates and exercised final 3750 stock options and reminded Bill to offer me more. For some reason I also reviewed 1982 and 1983 piano lessons during this 1/2 quarter.

Current review period starts at this point.

Last 1/2 quarter of 1985 was not very [soft] oriented: Design meetings I found boring for windows works property and investments in Pers Acct piano lessons (snow and hottub & xmas party too) Market net worth using excel unraveling medical bills calling in loans to Bob & Jorge fredericks Saturday nights SCC auction xmas parties ski trip too. Note on why pers acct cant help average consumer. But I did these things for works project compared excel and mouse works to see what I want in works. Report on testing and quality assurance. Studied flow of control in Wimp via symdeb tidied up WIMPS dialogs. Distribute WIMP in house. Read Lotus 123 simplified & played with Lotus 123. Read Excel in business [sick] 8 chop doing examples.

Fun love goodwill etc. Eye exam that day too.

Jan 14 I was very frustrated with debug.c but the end of windy Stormy evening Jan 16 I had finished it. On the 14th Tony also suggested I do the visual coding which may have been my spoonful of sugar. Got my paper on testing onto Laser Jet Fri 17th.

Friday Jan 17th I got some lean rates for houses in preparation for comparing renting vs buying with Excel on Sat 18th taking everything into account. Wrote it up on Sunday 19th saw Out of Africa with Bob & Gary.

JAN 86

New Years Brunch with Bob and Gary V. Watch SNL Partys HAD IT.

From Jan 1-12 I was primarily concerned with car shopping and financing and related issues like metal [tape] quality reading owners manual etc. keys parking permit etc.

Jan 13 Tony returned from 3 week vacation but my mind wandered to marginal cost of capital for ANY purchase small or large and in the afternoon realized how little pers acct takes into account relative to the broad scale of things important in life: time friends fun love goodwill etc. Eye exam that day too.

Still taking care of car things Mon 20th I started code task list for visuals schedule and meeting Tue 21st and talked with Chris Peters and Rick Powell Wed 22nd and worked on task list more on Thur 23rd but went ski shopping that afternoon. Friday 24th shopping more and started sketching Excel's disp.c Saturday Bout Show. Sunday Skiing with Bob and Gary V.

Mon and tue more on Mac Excel comparing Quickdraw and Windows GDI. Tony says perhaps Works wont be windows based. Start Moonage Shopping. Wed 29th start writeup of Mac Excel. More on Thurs and AMT meeting.

FEB 86

Sat Feb 1st was finances all day and night and computed tax liability sunday morning shopping later. Mon Feb 3 Microsoft announced going public. Got Pcode environment finished schedule. Tues and Wed adjusting to IPO. Thurs Pcode and new Spec. Fri 7th data structures doc reading setup new DOS SLM/Network moved to new office. Sat Feb 8, routine plus party with David Burns and Bill Reaper. Sun Bayliner Test run and skiing with Bob.

Mon Feb 10, boating [mcourage]/insurancen in morning and memory mgt and huge pointers in afternoon and get ps compiler etc make works basic app. Tuesday too plus read final Window Works spec v 1.07 and help Bob reconcile. Weds Feb 12 print Bobs 85 and 86 YTD reports and enter and reconcile my Jan CMA and cash and print out 85. Revise net worth with Excel. So 85 is done for Bob and Me. Drinks with Keith Hopper Sorrente coffee/kalua after goto work and get email that works wont be windows based. After dinner goto Daddys dynasty and [jackweld]. Thur 13th adjust to QB2 approachand throw out oldWindow doc n. Fri play with HP in CSL and mem MGR code in Words. The memory addressing scheme of 8086 finally makes sense look way to use char graphics!. Play with QB2 and compare w/ Window doc to see what we wont have. Saturday Feb 16 86 budgets and ML Medic PArtners. Thurs Feb 27 was the first day off due to Microsoft moving. Called [Potards] Sullivan and Dick Thorpe about AMT. Beautiful day 65 degrees boat shopping with Michael again. Fri more AMT and introduce myself to Estate and Gift taxes. Joe Lawrence on AMT IRS too. [Countous] in 13 Heels with Bob and Gary.

Sat [Merl]: Boats. Sun easy morning shop boats afternoon with Bob to visit Harborview relax dinner with Vic and Bob at Rusty Pelican. Mon: Library to research boat engines bumper sideswipe accident. IRS phone call recording AMT.

Tues Mar 4: First day at New Microsoft. Unpack sightsee. Evening try to do boating partnership agreement. Wed: deposit $500 on SeaRay. Mac work. Aerobics with Dana exhausting ... bad dinner with Michael at [Jalisecs] and decide against partnership. Thurs: 6502 Basic meeting. Get Audi Bumper Fixed. Boat matters. Network still not working. Fri 7th [greps] on MP2.00 Displ.c and calls about financing and insurance and Michaels risk. Decide to use Excel to determine equivalent monthly lease value. Look through nondisplay code of MP2.00 to see if theres anything else Id want to code. Probably not. Sat 8th: analyzed car and boat costs. Are my friends worth it? Budget boar as a gift? Once again ive learned importance of spreadsheets personally!! So the new car and boar were important motivators of my work on Works. Sun budget for buying boat myself. Make Audi Loan Amortization table. List why to get a boat now. Told boatland to forget it.

Mon Mar 10: Map plan 2.00 using [greps] I made recently. Tue finish map. Go to Seattle [Coun] center. Wed: Dish my work. Get Tony Fuss schedules convince myself to leave but realize lowest level stuff done. Buy mgt Edge software at Egghand. Get setup on Net. Thur: Harborview and Microsoft is public making all other losses and lost opportunities seem insignificant. Threw [cut] decadent stuff. Finish DOSENV and WW setup discard old backyards. Get WIMP up AGAIN. Wire up 3 way switch for PC z19 XENIX see Steve word (Asymettrix has 15 people programmers) at gym again. Fri starting code: [Our Rg Ch]. Lunch at Poppas with Group. Print stuff on LaserJet. Sat and Sun Skiing with Bob and Ned at Mission Ridge.

March 86 (Second Half)

Mon 17th: study and compare memory mgt in Plan 1.0, 1.2, 1.6, 2.0 with Shelly. Why did plan combine cell and Ent like Shelly does. Look at Mark Obriens documents on biff about Mac Excel and Windows Excel memory usage. List on laser printer. Tue 18th Look at MAC Memory Mgy in Library and ask Marko some questions. Look at Forsight (123 clone). Enlist in Excel on Biff poke around list a little. Compare MAC QD with Windows. Wed 19th: Try studying Mac Excels draw [roud]. Look at old Excel code on some 68000 Xenix machine and find Draw [rows]. Meet with Jeff. Thurs: write up outline for my display algorithms and discuss with Jeff. Fri 21st discuss memos with Bill Ed Tony and lunch afterwords and talk skiing. Draw screen layout discuss with Bill. Sat: Put boat stuff away frame Intel [Refl] unload (discard alert reorganize 08 heritage) closets buybacks. Sun: Get organized at office. Put up pictures misc memos into binder get new network files get office stereo and install.

Mon 24th: Finishing organizing get info and think about giving Megan IRA think about coding panes etc. Tue: actually print out panes using split bars. Say [le] coun center results help bob reconcile credit card loans. Wed: Line up pane lines on char boundaries Sleeping Beauty talk with Meg on IRA gift etc. Pee Wees Big Adventure. Thurs 27th morning work afternoon. Finally realize I should use WIMPS code for panes and frozen areas. Also get form to reconcile vacation time and get paid for excess. Fri put PC plan 2.00 and Mac Excel code away not needed anymore. That was great! Throw out Windows Excel listings. Erase Max Excel files on [statler]. Consolidate and/or throw notes to date. Read how to defend yourself against IRS. Sat finish how to and write AMT. Think about gifts to Smelser. Write note. Stay home one last Sat Night. Sun: Easter drizzly with mom and dad and Smelsers. Talk $$ with Meg. Go home work relax watch TV go to bed. Mon 31st AIDS vaccine possibility announced. Write up 7 week schedule fill out tax return and mail. Talk with Jeff ~ my design.
