Donald B. Tressider, President Stanford University, California
Dear Mr. Tressider:
Your letter of March, 1945 to Stanford Alumni in the Military Service has traveled a long way around the world to reach its destination. Reading it gave me a pleasant feeling to know that Stanford has been carrying on so many interesting training programs, and to know that we who are in the service out here are being remembered at home by the Stanford Family.
So many events of great importance have happened in the past few months that it has left me without positive plans for the future. However, my

tentative plans are to return home to get acquainted with my family, Virginia and two children Donald and Joanne; adjust to the new "stateside" environment; and then possibly to return to Stanford for a year of post graduate work.
As a former employee of the Yosemite Park and Curry Co, I send kindest thoughts and warmest greetings to you and Mrs. Tressider.
Sincerely, Arnold G. Applegarth Lt. U.S.NR.
P.S. The Bureau of Records at Stanford have me recorded as a S/Sgt. In January, 1943 I left the army to accept a commission in the Navy. For your records I am now a Lieutenant in the Naval Reserve, and will soon become a civilian again.
