Dear Mr. Tremiler,

I guess this is right channel to come through. I desire to return to Stanford after the war but after very last quarter there I am doubtful whether you would care to have me. As you may know I was a member of the "Flying Indians" and knew I was not to be able to finish college because of that fact. So I sort of jumped off the deep end so to speak and neglected classes, altogether during the last half of Spring Quarter 1942. I did not take any finals as I was away at the time. I should have tried for a leave of absence but I did not think I would ever return to college at that time. Now, however, things have changed and I find I do wish to return. I would appreciate very much anything you can do for me towards that end.

At that time I expect to be married and my fiance' would like to take her Master's at the same time I am finishing my four years. She is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and we are sort of in the dark as to whether or no she could take a masters at Stanford. I would also appreciate answer to this question. After three years of war I feel I have probably learned a little responsibility and I am sure I would become a credit rather than the former deficit I was at Stanford. This is written under adverse conditions many thousands of miles from the quad where I am knee deep in mud. Von Hart, the high jumper was in VMF 312 out here but was returned to the states because of asthma I believe. Karl Kellenberger is here with VMF 422 I believe. He is on his second tour and still in good physical condition although things this time is not quite so pleasant. We are flying very hard in the daytime and spend most

of our nights in foxholes trying to stay out of the Jap's way. Living conditions are very poor and the food situation is not much better. But things could be worse as they are about six miles from here where the boys are fighting the Jap. It's really living hell for them. I hope you will take my case under consideration, and, if you decide favorably, tell me at which stage I will be able to resume my education.

I was a member of the class of 1943 and a member of Phi Gamma Delta while at Stanford. My address is: Captain Grover A. Strone, USMCR, Marine Fighting Squadron 322, c/o F.P.O. San Francisco, California

Hoping to hear from you soon, I remain,

Grover A. Strone
