Office of the Judge Advocate General Washington D.C. June 19, 1942

Dear Tom

The enclosed clipping may possibly be of interest. I regret that I've heard nothing on the [subject?] which would add to the dearth of information in my response of two or three weeks ago. The [War?] Dept. is a big place - larger new building, [Munitions?] Bldg. on Conclusion Ave., new building over in Arlington, and then bits of it spread all around - eg. Office of the [JAY?] at 19th v A, S.E. [S?] in some of its varied parts there must be need for [men?] of varied specialties.

Two weeks ago, tomorrow, I officiated in a minor way at the wedding of Bob Putnam. A very nice girl, whom he met in the [East?]. She is attractive, has lots of good sense, - in short, I extremely approve. He is one of a million young [surgeons?] down in [Hoog?] Bldg., and seems to be doing well.

Now and then, unfrequently, I see some one from Stanford. Today it was [Kreps?], just in town, I gather. One day ran into Ray Lyman [Wilbur?] himself. One day [Donovan?], a [Lind?] Col. [Ordnance?].

I've been too busy by far to go out of my appointed path - through on an errand for Dr. [Halsti?] who is publishing a memorial note on my old Rocher Paliter
