"Catherine" [Katherine] some 3 or 400 miles
on the way to Port Darwin, &
he & several others at the
different Stations on the line
wanted to know if it was
really true that a lady
was at the Powell. Mrs.
Murray, the only woman in
any of the Stations sent
word to us that she intended
to keep me when I got to
their Station. They are about
240 miles this side of Port
Darwin, & she is considered a
great wonder. The niggers had
an idea there
was no such thing as a
woman among white people,
they thought we were all
men, so no wonder they
were astonished at seeing
a white "lubra".
