Saturday 9th June [1883]

We have just been resting
today on our tent. Harry
did a little washing this
morning & a few odds &
ends, but he was taking
it easy too most of the
morning & all the afternoon.
Mr. Tuckfield the Station
Master is a nice fellow, &
so delighted to have us
here. We shall start for
the Katherine tomorrow
morning as soon as possible
after breakfast.

Sunday 10th

We left the "Elsie" [Elsey] at 10, & arrived
in camp on "the Duck pond"
at about 3, having done 20
miles. We passed close by a
bitter spring, the water of which
is quite bitter, it was off the
road so we did not go to it.
This has seemed as unlike a

Line 12: Name of station master difficult to make out. Tuckfield seems most likely spelling. Cannot find a list of 1880s station masters for Elsey OT Station that includes a name like that.
