After lunch Voce who, we areglad to seo is back after his injury on Saturday, and
Hannond, took over the bowling and it was early apparent that they were getting a
distinct nip out of the wicket. With only a few runs added Pontford was bowled by
Voce in trying leg glance. Ponsford had been 216 minutes at the wicket and his
inveluable innings contained eight fours. Paynter injured his anicle and had to leave
the field. The score at 3 o'clock was:

Another unfortunate incident oceurred at sbout 3.15, Oldfield being struck on the
head by a ball from Larwood. He staggered and fell and after 5 minutes he was supported
off the field by Woodfull. He managed to walk but was holding a towel to his head. This
further injury was greeted by the crowd with continuous hooting and even when play was
resumed the crowd continued to show their displeanure in a lively manner. The remaining
2 wickete fell rapidly, Wall being bowled by Hammond for 6 and O'Reilly by Larwood for 0.

The innings closed at half past three for 222. Just before the close of the innings
Paynter returned to the field and it was seen that his injury was not serious. I will
