as I read in the Papers of to-day – and a Letter has been
written to Lord Stanly [Stanley] – acquainting him of it – & requesting
him to suspend his judgement until he gets a proper state-
-ment – I believe a deputation has waited on the Govr.
with the letter, and to beg he will transmit it to Ld. Stanly
– of course it will not go – without accompanying
comments – I was very thankful, your beloved Brothers
were out of the way of the [indecipherable word deleted] clamour – even
though there may be some grounds for dissatisfaction - the
[Govmt?] will have a world of Tears, for those who are
really interested for our Australian Squattocracy –

Your letter, to which I before alluded, was the one which
lay so long in Dublin – & is of old date – we have had
English Intelligence here, so late as the 7th of Jany. via Bombay
by the H M S Frigate Thalia – which has touched at Sydney – in
her way to the Pacific – she is commanded by Capt. C. Hope
and will remain a fortnight to refit – our news direct
from England extends only to the first week in Decr.
Mr. Donaldson has called upon us – and talked a great deal
of you – his Sister Jane is staying at Vineyard until
her brother suits himself with a House – Emmeline
