lived entirely in the past –

And I was quite surprised how well
Lady M. could follow his thoughts
& how thoroughly she had made her
=self acquainted with his old
associations – So that she could
soothe him – & comfort him
I was only in London for two days
I very seldom go up – indeed I do
not feel strong enough for much
locomotion –

The Leslie's (Warthill) have a house
there this winter and that is a
strong temptation to me, but it
knocks me up too much to go so
hurriedly and I dont like to leave
my Boys for any number of nights
I dont really know what would
have become of me, if I had not
gone to Scotland after the blow fell

I was so ill – so worn out and so
unhappy I sorely needed all
the love and tenderness I found
there
