My dear Bessie

I wonder when these lines will
find you! I wrote to you to Sandhurst
& I have been hoping to hear of you
I also wish much to hear of poor
Mr Bonham Carter – who I only heard
of as he left the place. I heard
that an Englishman had come
with a broken leg – and then that
he was returning to England as it
was only a sprain – but I had
no idea of his name till he had
gone – I heard that his heart
was not aggravated by the long
journey – what a misfortune
that he did not see a doctor
at Calais instead of coming on
after the accident happened
