I had never seen him before or since
but it is every thing to Vigant today!
Politics here will interest you
was there ever such a [original text crossed out- scene] comedy in the
H of C. as Labouchers [Labouchères] beating
the Government! ! & proposing to
make 500 Liberal Peers to carry the
H of Lords? The whole thing is
dreadful when one looks at it
gravely – that such things can
be possible – in such a place –
Every one seems to expect an
Election soon & Conse [Conservative] & Unionist
seem confident & impatient
for the fray – It is too absurd
after that wicked old man
throwing his bomb at H of Lds
that he should have named
a Peer as Prime Minister

They say - "that sly old fox
has thrown his mantle on Lord Rys [Rosebery's]
shoulders"! – The pity of it is
that needed legislation waits
