Mr. Robt. Kennicott
D. Sir
Herewith are some Insect pins sent you by direction of Prof. Baird, they are the nearest I could get to the sizes he sent me as a guide.
Prof. B. informs me that you are somewhat inclined to Ornithology, which is also my favorite pursuit when I can command the time -
I have a good collection of N.A Birds, but there are some few Western ones, I would like to get, viz, the Whooping Crane (G. Americana) in full adult plumage - The Trumpeter Swan - The Rocky M. Golden Eye (C. Barronii)
Baird told he saw in the West & in Canada.

Baird's Buzzard (B. Bairdii) Evening Grosbeak.
Do you get the Lapland Long-spur & the Painted Lark-Bunting in Summer plumage? as they are both abundant in your State in Winter, some may remain until they assume their Spring dress - Have you ever met with Grus Hoyanus?
I will be glad to hear from you in relation to the above, & also stating what birds you have that are considered rare. Have you ever procured any of the large Terns that breed on the Upper Lakes?
Yours respy Geo. N Laurence [ornate squiggly lines under signature]
