Milwaukee Feb 23d 1857

Dear Sir

I have sent as requested the fish=net belonging to Prof. Baird by express to the Prairie Farmer Office for you. Please drop him a line to say that you have receivd it, and thus release me from the responsibility I am at present under in regard to it. It appears to be in good order, ready to catch tad poles provided they are not too small to be retained in it. –

The oak leaf appears to be Q. palustris (an improper name.) It holds its leaves all winter on account of its youthful age rather than its kind. Young white okes, beech &c do the same.

Get some old trapper to show you the Indian potatoe! – I do not know it unless it be the Apios which is a vine of the pea family (Leguminosae) You will find it described in Gray, & other botanical works. –

Your letter did not reach me in time to send on Saturday. –

I am glad you have got a place so much to your taste: wish I could accompany you! –

Very truly yours I. A. Lapham

Robert Kennicott Esq.
