Ann Arbor Mich 28 Feb 1857
Dear Sir
Yours of Feb 3d rec'd As I anticipated about the long tailed mouse but I should be glad to study it more mi= =minitely =nutely some time
I shall not dispute you on the determination of the Arvicolae but I think I can point out some im= =portant disagreements with the descriptions which I have been able to consult & I have been hoping for th some time to attend to this but you will allow that 7 lec= =tures aweek besides one daily recitation is not calculated to leave much

time for amateur work I shall not forget the ques= =tion however
You can send any of the specimens to Dr Baird as I think we can get more in the spring. I have now additional specimens of the darkest colored & shortest Arvicola
Any thing you may be willing to send in Exchange for specimens will be highly acceptable
I know nothing of the dates of migrations of squirrels
Is it marine or land & fresh water shells which you wish to exchange? I am now ready to exchange Helices. We have all the species in the U.S. except 3 or 4 Oregon species
