Philadelphia March 17th 1857.
My dear Sir.
The package containing your named beetles goes to Dr. Hoy today. There are four boxes, & about 1500 specimens. For boxes pins & labor, which took the evenings & mornings for about a week, I paid Mr. Guex $10, which you may remit by mail. but have the letter registered, if you send a bank-note, to avoid loss.
I hardly imagined you would require 15000 pins for your own use. but you can dispose of them all to the University, & then buy for yourself & friends as you require. They will not last more than three years. at least that is about my consumption, and I have already all the common species.
How shall I send them when they arrive? Their price will be $1.00 per 1000.
Ever sincerely yours John L. LeConte
# There were quite a number of rare & new species among your insects.
