Philadelphia June 5 1857

Dear Sir

I was preparing to write to you when I received your letter of 29th May, in which you express considerable anxiety about the insect-pins which my father promised to send you.

These so long expected pins have at last arrived, but instead of being what we expected, turn out to be nothing more than common pins of rather better kind than ordinary, of course I refuse to take them. I regret exceedingly that you are thus disappointed in the receipt of what is so materiallly wanted by every entomologist, I shall however send immediately to Berlin, by a reliable way and hope to obtain every thing that we wish for in the course of two or three months. When I have time to spare, I will look over our pins, and send you on all that I can.
