Dear Sir.

I am very glad to hear of you again by your favor of the 5th inst. Your journey to Red River must have been an extremely interesting one - As for the snails they must be scarce in those regions, especially after the spring has passed. You would certainly have found any that were about. I shall be very glad to see what you have, however.

Your shells are waiting your commands, and will continue to do so till you write me. They are not in my way, and are quite safe. I think the best way I can assist you is to take the whole lot, after leaving out samples for you, and

I have a copy of my fathers work waiting for you at Boston - Will you have it sent to Washington? If you come through Philadelphia let me know in time to go in to see you and show you the shells at the Academy
