Dear Mother

Got here last night –
all night tho rather sleepy having
ridden straight through without
sleeping at Pittsburgh as I had
intended doing. I remained in
Chicago till Thursday night
and by so doing saved five or six
dollars –

Saw Prof Baird last night.
got more deeply in love than ever with
him – He looks queerly – is rather handsome
with soft features, of a very young appearence
appears His face looks sober and were I to
see him anywhere without knowing him I would
set him down for a very kind hearted person.
He works himself half to death but I
think counteracts the effects of hard work
by making very regular hours taking exercise
etc etc – That he is a good man
in the best sense of the word I think is
certain and in taking him somewhat as
a model (which I naturally will) you
may rest assured Ill not be in danger
of being led into any wrong doing – Mrs Baird
is a very pleasant lady – Prof Baird
in two hours talking last night taught
