Young Friend
I recd. a letter from your father advising me: that you were in Washing =ton persuing your studies, and perhaps, you might be benefit =ed by an acquaintance with western members of Congress.
On this suggestion, I wrote to the Hon. R. Smith member from my Dist. who will, I believe, stand your fast friend to advance you in your studies. I requested him to write you where and when a call from you would be acceptable.
I hope I may be able to assist you: as such cases stand first in my heart.
