Dear Father
I niglected writing yesterday and will scratch a little this morning tho it must be very little I give little or no time to letter writing now – I have go so broken into the harness that I can work [illegible] evenings and I must devote all possible time to the Pat office article which I want to make worth $300. and thus every hour of writing time is worth some mony.
I am getting to work well at the reptiles and am myself alone doing the redescribing of the known species. Baird will look ovr my work and finally do the more difficult parts
At present my round for the day is Breakfast at 8 O C. After Breakfast walk a mile to the Smithsonian – stay there till 3¾ O. C. when I walk a mile in 15 minutes to the med college at 5 go to dinner – take a good long time at dinner when we all

let off the bottled up fun of the day. At 7 O. C. go to med college again back to my lodgings at 8 or a little later – write till twelve. I thus walk at least 5 miles per day –
I have paid no visits yet – I have gone into new lodgings – two rooms, large well furnished cost me only $12 per month and about $3 more for fire & light
The U.S. Agl Soc is in session at the Smithsonian – Shall make myself acquainted with som of 'em to day.
Ill write to Bruno about my little aquarium – which is a jar of sea water with three[?] species of sea weed and ten species of animals growing in it –
I get letters [illegible] regularly every other day – I write quite irregularly
