The Grove Feb 12th 1858

Dear Bob -

Major received a letter from you yesterday; we were right glad to get it as we did not hear from you the mail before –

The weather has been – and is still – extremely cold – We have had to spend all our time in trying to keep warm.

Notwithstanding the cold, Guy Cutting brought Charlie home, day before yester= =day; they were rather cold however when they got here. Mr Cutting did not return untill after dinner yesterday.

Laurance went “to mill” for Aunt Avis this morning, so Major had to do the “chores” he got Mr Clark to milk – which was the most he had to do, – while he and Dele' Boyden did the rest, which ment to throw a little hay to the cattle and then go over to Aunt Dele’s and spend the morning.

Of course having the absence of Delia and Major Charlie feels rather “unsettled” in his mind, and I think he will find it quite necessary to pay his respects to his Aunt Avis before many minuets.

Although the weather is so cold it is so beautifully clear and bright, that I want to go out “terribly”, but I cant for as soon as I finish this letter I must iron “like fun”, for there are about twenty five shirts to be “done up” and other things too numerous to be mentioned.

I am troubled just now with with a very bad cold in my head, and it makes me feel exceedingly cross.

We play chess as much as ever – I played two games yesterday.

The sleighing is excellent, and we all want very much to have a ride but I am afraid we shall not.

We shall be “real glad” if you do stay at Evanston next summer.

Mother mends as steadly as usual. By the way, who does your mending? or don’t you need to have any done?

If you intend to give Mother something toards furnishing the parlors, don’t give her the money, for if you do it will melt before any furniture can be had; but buy yourself what furniture you wish angd give that to her and she will have it then.

There are so many uses for money in such a large family that is is alfmost impossible to keep a bit.

I can’t spend time to write more this morning –

With much love In haste Sister Dalce
