The Grove Feb 13th 1858

Dear Bob -

I received your letter of Feb 7th a few moments since; was pleased to get it as I have not had many letters from you of late.

What makes you ask me to write to you? I fancy if you will just remember a little you will find that I have written to you oftener than any one else except Father – I guess you don’t get all my letters –

What sort of a young lady is Miss Randolph? and where did you meet her? Haven’t you become acquainted with any other ladies?

How old is Lucy Baird? I should judge from what Mrs Walker told me about her that she was exceedingly intelligent.

I am glad that you do go out a good deal; I think it is an excellent thing for you to go to all the parties you can. Do you ever attempt to dance.

Mrs Cutting has not been out for some time, but we expect her every day – “Guy” has been

up to Iowa “collecting” for Mr. Walker -

We all went up to The Folly yesterday, had a delightful ride going and comeing, and a right pleasant visit after we got there, I cut two of the childrens hair, combed and washed an two more; gossiped with Grandma, and visited Mr Mc Laurys school - Uncle Hiram was in Chicago, he plays chess more than ever. I think it is a great pity that Uncle Hiram wastes so much energy on such a useless thing; if he gave one fifth of the attention to his children that he gives to his chess he would soon see a great improvement in those “little savages”. They are improveing some under Mr Mc Laurys care but not as much as they ought, Frank is as outlandish as ever, but George is really a very fine boy, and will I have no doubt make a splendid man – Ransom, poor fellow, - has suffered a great deal all winter from rheumatisim; and his Father does not have the least sympathy for him and thinks “he could study if he chose.” I pity Ransom sincerely, he is brokenstirited

and I am afraid will never be much more than he is at present.

I have just been writing to Emma, she wants you to write to her, I told her she had better write to you. If she does try and answer the letter.

Write to Grandma if you can, it would please he so much –

I presume you see “lots” of “beautiful and accomplished” ladies, when you write tell us about some of them.

We are having a terribl snow storm, the snow is already quite deep and it is still snowing fast, “And the roar of the wind is heard like the chimes

Of the waves on an angry sea”

Flint has been up at The Folly for the past week.

Praise Bruno a little for writing to you it will please him –

Major has been busy to day writing “valentines” to Lizzie Boyden, and Emily Robertson –

We are all invited to dine at Aunt Carries; however I think the snow will be to deep for us to go.

My throat is very sore, it makes me feel cross as can be –

Delia Boyden is going to Chicago next week. Charlie is going home with her.

Aunt Avis and Dele are quite well. They never come here though.

Cora is will – she is stronger this winter than she ever was before –

Take care of yourself and be a “good boy” –

With much love Sister Dalce

Dear Bob, Sunday morning

The folk have all gone over to Uncle Wills – I am not going just yet – Frank came out last night - , He has just gone to take Cora out riding – It is a glorious morning, all the trees are covered with snow, – and the sun is shineing brilliantly –

We think Mrs Cutting may come out to day –

The sleighing is grand
