[printed letterhead] Office of Emery's Journal of Agriculture. EMERY & CO. Publishers, 204 Lake Street, Chicago, Ill [handwritten] Feb. 18. [printed] 185

[handwritten] Dear Bob:

I am ashamed to think that I have neglected writing you so long - but then time has flown so agreeably with me for the last fortnight that really I think I need not apologize - especially as every day I thought I would write you the next. I ahve nothing new to inform you of. - All right at home - all right here too [illegible] all of Agrl - going ahead like smoke. - I have done nothing very brilliant except to obtain to firm rate lady contributors. - My Dept. is respectible & thats all you can say of it. We too much like working for "dead horses" or tread too near treadmill exercise to draw and any real strength. Another thing fine Middl dont afford a healthy or exciting opposition -

I went yesterday over to Bush [illegible]. to attend the commencement exercises - Was invited to the supper - it was a loud affair - such stories jokes - & toasts were enough to make one's sides ache for a month. - Delie[?] is in town will stay a week - Ill send you some papers

P.S. Guy Cutting is well - see him some every day - Have not been at Mrs Walkers or Mrs Cuttings in nearly a month. - Dont know what became of the time - Have been to very fine lectures - I have paid no calls since New Years - Fell awful desperate blue when I look ahead - Wish I owned a big farm & merry[?] down on the Ill Central some where - began to suspect that that is my true chance after all - & that I shant be happy out of it very long. - . I wish you write me -

Charlie -

C. D. B. desires to be particularly commended to you -
