The Grove March 25th 1858

Dear Bob.

No letter from you to day much to our disappointment. I have been working all the morning - "cleaning" - washing windows, doors, wall's, ect. sweeping duting, making beds, "setting things to rights" genrally - Rather hard work, but I like to do it for it makes such a vast ifference in the looks of the house. But I am afraid you won't appreciate all this,

Major is busy in the nursery, He has "lots" to attend too and is remarkably goodtempered with all -

The weather has been delightful but, I am very much afraid we shall have rain before morning, hope we shall not for the "troops" are busy packing a load of tree to go to Chicago saturdy.

We have a good many pretty flowers now -

Jack (the little terrier) occupies a great deal of time and attention He is considered by Cora and the little boys as the most wonderful dog ever created, and is treated accordingly - He is no doubt a very intelligen puppy after the boys catch mice for him he kills them, and devowers them is quickly as any cat - I am afraid our girls will not sty as they want higher wages than Mother feels able to pay, and more than they can earn -

Aunt Carrie has a new sewing girl, a [letter struck out] Miss Klober a german girl, I should judge a nothe one, like Uncle Hiram's french governess.

All send love Sister Alice

I can't write to-day - but I send you three notices of your Rabbits & Mules - not knowing whether you get the Prarie Farmer or not A. Mr W. T. Grimes of Claremont Ill. writes me, that he has sent to you, care of Judson two "Water Dogs" as he calls them - I will send the letter to Judson and send to the Express office too. I presume they are Salamanders though he says he feeds them crawfish
