The Grove April 1st 1858

Dear Brother -

I recd your letter day-before-yesterday I send you the seeds: they are miserably put up, but I did them as well as I could. The writing was entirely rubbed off from some of the bundles. I found some labeled "prairie turnip" but none "plain turnip". I was glad to get the pins and shall try and make good use of them as soon as the insects begin to come.

We are without a girl again, and have a great many men as we usually have this time of the year.

Charlie came home day-before-yesterday and is now busy getting up trees and plants to take with him down to "Goose Tunkin Point" as Frank has named the place that he is going to. H expects to start tomorrow.

We have a good many flowers. We use those shubs that Charlie gave us for vases; the effect

Jack is a wonderfully smart puppy. but I am afraid it will be a long time before we shall be able to teach him to give us the mice unbrused for he likes to eat them too well. but we will try. Don't expect much from the little boys for Flint is more the "baby" than he ever was before and does just nothing. Ira is a little more willing to work but not much - I think it perhaps would do some good to write to them telling them how much you want them to help you. Alice and I (as you must know) are very busy but will do all we can Mr Clarke left yesterday: I believe
