Red River 5th June 1858

Robt Kennicot Esqr

My dear Sir,

I beg to acknowledge the receipt of a number of your Chicago Press which I conceive to be through you which I am obliged to you for the same. but sorry to say I have not heard about you either by communication or any way else, but owing to many inconvenience I am sorry to say I have collected but very litle not for want of will or effort but for want of vessels and Alchohol or other Spirits as every thing in the Settlement was entirely run out. however I trust it will reach safe the five mice, one Mole, one Ermine & a smalll bottle of fish taken on a mud bottom in the month of October towards its close - and shall be happy to hear from you whether you visit our Settlement or not. and to know such as you may want for the sueing year as I may be better provided for than the past -

I am dear Sir Your most obt St

P.S. the mice enclosed are the most rare in the Settlement one of which is the first I have seen since I came to the Country -
