Dear Mr. Kennicott!
I received your letter today, on my return home from New York (where I accompa nied my chief, when he sailed for Europe) and ha sten to enclose herewith a lot of small pins of two sizes. Larger specimens of diptera can be pinned on the usual long pins.
I was very glad to hear that you are pleased and satisfied with your excursion; you must have a glorious time, and I regret exceedingly

that circumstances, although otherwise, fortunate for me prevented me from accompanying you.
Henceforth I will be very busy for some time with the affairs of the Legation, still I will do what I can for my little ones.
At Berkeley Springs, where I spent two weeks, I had the pleasure of ma king the acquaintance of your beautiful friend, Miss B. Randolph, and admire her very much.
