Dear Father:

It seems I was mis= taken and that the map I sent you with Pat Office Rep. illustrating geog. dist of trees was the revised one and to be published as you see it.

It was prepared by Dr. J. G. Cooper one of the naturalists of the Pacific R. R. Surveys. It is doubtless not perfect, but still as you see a first rate thing – a better map s The work is so good as to deserve a much better map. & larger. And it is to be regretted that the article prepared by Dr Cooper to explain the map was crowded out for want of space

I have a piece of private information for you & Mr Emery – The article above mentioned gives is a very excellant and detailed essay

essay on the geog dist of trees, and is of no little scientific merit – On account of its length (some 10 pages of Pat Office Rep) it was crowded out could not be published – Cooper has it ready written and would probably let Emery have it at something less than the $5. per page paid by Pat. office – If it could be afforded I should think it y would be a first rate thing for Emery to publish it. If desired Cooper will even prepare original maps to s which would cost engraved some $50. – This would perhaps not be advisable as the Pat office Rep. would be accessable to those most interested in the article. If Cooper does not publish it in a book form he is to let me know soon on what terms he will let Emery have the article

Expect to get onto the reptiles this week

Love to all Bob.
