Dear Father

I enclose $5. I want to pay Downs and Van Wyck by the middle of the month as promised – I have but lately sent the bill to Mich Univ and will not soon have the money.

Have suffered a good deal lately from head ache and dont pretend to do any work nights, and write no letters. Work all day pretty well at the Smithsonian.

In your articles I have one thing to criticise – you use mention “Dr Kennicott” too often. Such things are very rarely excusable and always produce a bad effect.

Please get a list of the members of the state legislature if possible and take a piece of fools cap and begin to jot down nams of influential men to write to the members – Ill get up two d circulars one to men to write to members, another to the members – But the main chance will be for you to go down and button hole them and thus put the thing through

Yours of Dec 3rd is just recd Sory it didnt come sooner – will talk with Profs Baird & Henry about Prof Henrys reccommend might get you the invitation to the agricultural congress. Tho I fear Brown will have already invited somebody.
