Sunday Dec 12th
Dear Mother
Was pleased to get you letter the other day - I should feel sorry not to get more letters from you were it not that I know how little you write.
For a few days I have confined myself to 6 hours work for several days taking long walks [illegible] now at Gymnasem and am letter writing at night - Have thus gotten rid of my headache and feel quite jolly again.
I have lately met Mrs Wade a niece of Dr Kirtlands

who promises to be a very pleasant aquantance for me indeed. -
The Megathenia are quite pleased at the prospect of fathers being here - Leconte and Cassin - perhaps Lirdz will be here during his stay - Stimpson will be back by the 1st of Jan - I shall have the best room in the house with a fire in it ready for father, with provisions for extensive oyster roasts, and Campbell keeps some very good old rye on hand. On the whole Ill bet he'll get good care. It will be hard work getting here of course but he must leave Chicago on Thursday and get here so as to have Sunday to rest in. Ill have time to go around with him and Stimpson has a horse

would require a great nut of stationery - another thing is that while writing for you is a change it is for me more work of the same kind that has occupied me all day - My work is all brain work and letter writing is no relaxation. I writ very few letters now.
As for Charlie and those who complain I dont write to 'em just let em say first that they have written to me! I have [illegible] cause for complaint.
I have answered all letters -
