Dear Father.
Prof Henry will write a strong letter I think to Mr Bateman - I did[strikethrough] could not give him the "points" - ie. letter written by Prof Baird and Ime - till this morning so the letter will not go till to day sometime.
I concluded not to go to Douglas for a letter - He would at most only give you a mere non commit al letter of introduction and so d-n the thing by faint praise.
After all it is as Prof Baird says the direct talking over that must effect the thing.
I suppose youll hardly get this so no use writing at length
Capt J.D. Webster of Chicago must be in Springfield, and promised to help me get this bill through.
