Egypt Sunday Feb. 20. 1859.
Dear Bob -
Am only going to say two words to you - I expect to have a letter from you to day If I can survive the attempt to get it from Cairo - the roads are horrible it has been raining here for a week - from all out - Blue birds [illegible] [illegible] days grass actually growing - Mercury at 75[degrees] all day yesterday have have no occasion for fires for several days until the morning - Am getting on well with the grafting have set 34000 & over hope to finish by Thursday night & then hurrah! for Dele [illegible]

home. Went I let glad though to be off. - Bob I have really worked like 77 you than. Know enough about grafting to be aware that a fellow has to make his fingers fly to [illegible] 15 to 1700 in a day and that I have done day after day have a [illegible] and a boy to help both "bricks" but still so green that they do little more than wait on me -
Prospect seems pretty good for spring sales I have got [plenty?] of hard work and troubles before me but I guess I shall make a "go" of it - and after this [morning?] it will be
