Yours of 17th, to Alice, came yesterday - Proud to know you have the labelling of Aggas=siz Snake's - Keep up courage and work, work, work, and I may live to see you scare 2d to him, as a Zoologist - There is nothing impossible, or even im=probable, in it - But a "Proph=et in his own country" - You know the adage - By the way, even I have been seriously asked if I would consent to go to Iowa, as "President of the "Farmers College". The proposal came from a mem=ber of the "Committee" appoint=ed to seek out a proper set of "professors", and a presi=dent, - and I answered yes - that I would accept if elected, "provided", I should not be re=quired to break up here - I offered to give them as much time as I formerly gave one State Society

Last news I had from our legisla=ture, it was "breaking up" - not "adjourning" - and private Bills, - and bills in which members had a pecuniary interest - were slipping through, fast enough - May send you Gary[?] Jakas[?] paper, marked at some of the rich points - and by the way, may put the [illegible] [illegible], for Baron [illegible], thrice if I cant find a box -

My eyes are a little better - Cant read, however - Some snow last night - Expect Charlie on Monday, certain - and I think Maj will return then - and we hope Alice -

Bruno is wasing grafts for Laurence - Little fellow good for mix. - One large order for trees, and lots of inqui=ries - Keeps me writing

No news from Chase yet - Dont believe he went to Springfield, at all -

You will see by this weeks P. F. and succeeding numbers, that I am writing again - and Charlie has got some good Editorial in this - I write to Trumbull this mail - I shall resume my "Critiques", by & by, perhaps
