Peoria Ill. Febr 26. 59

Dr Kennicott

Dear Sir. I received your letter for which I return my best thanks. I was very much satisfied, to learn, that you remember me so kindly as to do some thing for me. I [illegible] not yet receive the Volume Nov 9, but as soon as I shall receive it, I will write to [illegible] Kellogg and in the meantime look around for some friend of that gentleman. It is in deed very [illegible], that those Congress reports generally are distributed so that part of our public, which make no use of it, and those, who need to much, can obtain the same only occasionally. I wrote a letter to the secretary of [illegible] part, in which I beg for the Plantae Wright; anac and Fremont anac, but I do not know, of whether I will succeed or not. Can you do any thing for me, as you are acquain ted with the personallities of the [illegible]. So I want all the older Congress Reports which contain matter of natural science of which I have only Fremonts [illegible] [illegible] and Harrisburgs Report.

It was since a long time a favorite idea of mine, to write a history of the progress of natural science in U.S. but we [illegible] the sufficient material. it is not possible. Perhaps you can find out, if there are any spare copies, or if you have a chance to buy one or the other for me, I would remitt to you the amount with my best thanks - In Springfield I have seen your father doing his best for a Zoological survey, as I did for a botanical one, but as I believe now, without success, as no appropriations have been made. Well perhaps we have a better chance next year.

Is there a complete collection of Illinois plants in the Smith. Inst. If not I would collect for the same next season

Please favor me again with a [illegible]

Yours Respectfully J. Brendel
