The above Society was organized last Tuesday Evening Mch 1 1839 by the following Gentlemen viz: Dr T. B. Wilson Dr Ino. L. LeConte. James Ridings, George Newman, T. B. Ashton, William Wood, John Piersol, James W. McAllister, Charles Wilt, & Seven others. A Constitution & By Laws were drawn up & adopted & on Monday Evening next the 14th inst. the first Stated Meeting will be held at the res=idence of Dr Le Conte 1325 Spruce St. when a President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer will be elected for to serve until the last Monday Evening in December next. - I wish you could be present. Dr LeConte seems to take a lively interest in the Society. He has kindly offered his room for the Society to meet in - & intends to give elementary lectures in the classification of Coleopteras which, no doubt

will be highly interesting. - Now my friend I wish you could come on to Philadelphia soon, as I wish to go collecting and would be very happy for you to teach me how to collect. In regard to my trip South west, I will either go next month or early in the fall just as my Mother decides as I have to wait for her & take her with me. You must not think that I am going to back out, I cannot do that as I have sent very near all my household goods on except my wife which I will take with me if she is spared & in good health

I still assure you that I will put you in possession of some new & beautiful species of Coleoptera. I am training a friend (who is to go with me) how to catch bugs, [illegible] belongs to this Society, & named McAllister is a first rate fellow & takes an interest in the study of Coleoptera. - Let me hear from you very soon & oblige Yours.
