My dear brother:
This letter will be handed to you by Mr. R. Kennicott of Illinois, who proposes to leave this city early next week for St Paul on his way to Hudsons Bay, whither he goes, a notary of Natural History, in the service of the Smithsonian Institute.
He will be glad to recieve from you information to guide him in the prosecution of his journey, and

letters to the agents of the Fur Company which today in that region of country commending him to their care & courtesy & that may inerst[?] their sympathies iin the cause he has at heart
By assisting him you will lend your aid to the advancement of science & at the same time greatly oblige
