Dear Panx

On the 4th of July I got an egg of the wax wing (Ampelis garrulus) the best thing I've obtaned since I left home. I always have managed to make what Prof Baird calls a ten[underlined] strike[underlined] on that day -

Im a cosmopoloton and not at all patriotic though.

I've been a little unwell for several days for the first time almost since I left home - cause combined effects of heat, botheration from Indianas, and rage at losing so much time from the collecting - Tell Helmuth or any other Chicago beetle men that I've got a pint or two of good beetles.

I am bound to go home next year - Ill be at The Grove by Christmas 1862 or break something in the attempt - Had a jolly winter and fine time this spring - baring Musquetoes.

On about this 15th of next[strikethrough] August[strikethrough] July 1862 I will make my start for home if I go to the sea coast or on the 20th if I stop at Anderson.

Listen

Listen at that time and maybe you'll hear a yell[underlined] such as you wot of.

I hope to get letters from you at Ft Simpson ere I leave there next fall.

Glad as Ill be at the prospect of starting for home I shall regret leaving the jolly pile of P.B.s I shall part with at Ft Simpson.

I write you a note, but your letters you must read at The Grove where I write to our folk generally and very few in particular -

I ate part of a big salmon[underlined] for breakfast -

In a hurry

Yours truly Bugs.

when you read this I'll be hunting white foxes at the Anderson.
