Dear Bob. Nothing from Amasa, or Alice & Frank, since last week - Cora still better - Dolph about the same - Fareman's wife [illegible], - Two breakfasts, - instead of one, - is about all the extra trouble, now, Mother stands it well. I am well - ex=cept breathing. I supposed that will "stop", some time. Little boys awfull lazy - Their squirrells, coons, ducks & chickens occupy their time. Aunts & Uncles & cous- =ins, as usual - no recent news from those in the army - Walter may be one, of the "25.000 killed, wounded & miss=ing", in the eight days' battle - or series of Battles - below Richmond! It is now admitted, on all hands, that McClellan's grand army is about used up - full one third put hars[?] du combat! as McClellan's dem=acratic friends say, that he had but 75,000 effective men, to meet the attack of from 100,000 to "200, 000", (according to some) of the rebels, who attacked his position! I, of course, believe he had more, and the enemy less than stated. Still, they (the rebels) were, doubtless, numerically superior - and much better commanded.
