Ottawa Iowa March 25th, 1857 Mesrs John A & Chas Kennicott, I learn form the P.M. that the western mail did not get here yesterday or last night & therefore our letter written yesterday has not yet left this office. We wish to say further, that we think at present that it will be safe to wait till we get your catalogue before ordering. The season with you is no doubt later than here. If you have the New Rochelle Blackberry, or some other cultivated variety equally good, we shall want 1 or 2 doz., also a few of the Concord Grape roots & about 100 Catawbas. The cherries we have selected for this locality are the Carnations, Shannon. Kennicott, --- ? purple Georgian, Hortense, Logan, * Gov Wood & Early Richmond. What do you think of it? We shall want from 50 to 100 Dwarf Pears & 25 Scotch & Austrian Pines. We want everything to succeed well becuase it is the commencement of business. Please note how long it takes this letter to reach you & state about what length of time it will require after receiving an order to get them shipped, & then we can calculate on what time to have a team in Mt Pleasant to meet them. Yours truly, Wm Doggett & Co.
