Dixon March 30, 1857.

Doct J. A. Kennicott,

Dear Sir,

Yours of 24th inst was duly rec'd. I have written to Mr Fish backs reference in St Louis, who say that he is O.K. He has ordered 2000 apple Trees, and 50 Pears and 50 cherries, which latter I have agreed to send, to clinch the sale of the former. He is to give me a Note payable Augt 1, at Bank, with 10 per cent int. He wants 300 Rauls Janette, 300 Autumn Pippin, 200 Car Red June. bal in other best varieties. I wrote him that I could not sup ply the N. Pippin. not cultivating it. I shall send him the Rauls Janette. tho it will about break up my stock. I have about 1000_ 5 yr old trees of it, but there is not a sound one in the lot of this age, and they were magnificent trees. so of N. Spy. willow twig, Fall Wine Porter, Milam &c. all ruined, too bad.

If I can send 100 More R Janette to Mr Fishback I will do so. I go out to my old Nursery tomorrow to commerce digging, and shall get his trees off as fast as possible. I cannot, dare not promise you to make out a report of the doings of the Sec Co Ag, Society, for I am driven almost to death, but if I can I will do

it.

I want to do a good deal this spring but have not got the men. No hands to be had but [raw?] Irish, and I do dislike to trust anything to the treacherous set. If you have applications from any Germans or scotch, who understand anything about Horticulture, and do not want the applicants yourselves, do pray direct them hither.

I am getting a Kanzas fever. I am sick of this terrible climate for Nurserymen.

If Mr. Fishback gets 300 Janette from me, (and he will get them) you ought not to trouble yourself much if he gets none of you.

In haste. Yours truly,

J. T. Little.
