Oakwood Hamilton, Hancock Co, Ill October 27th 1857 Messrs Kennicott After several days illness, I am nowable to write a few lines. You have had cause to think me heedless about making or keeping promises. Especially the positive me of sending you money by Oct. 1st. Had you witnessed my efforts, and success (rather than want of it) in "collecting" you might have had different views. owed me in August there has been paid me $4 out of $53. Still they are "good men & true". Had I fot the money, it would have been nearly impossible to buy a draft worth anything. However, there is a draft due me from the Am.H. Whse. Soc. which should come to hand with out fail by Nov. 10th. I think I can rely onthis , and you may rely on handling it. You seem anxious to sell me tulips. - a great customer truly, to trust for the tulips, or any thing else. However I really think I will get some money sent, get a few tulips too. I will send a very small order,
