I have no doubt that you intended to have them all right in every respect. but indeed I never saw a worse abused lot of trees- great [pianes] had evidently been taken in digging them but in the fracep of "looking" ([faming], I should say) nearly every ^root was broken off or twisted and mangled within a few inches of the stem. I framed off a large pile of these broken roots from on to five feet long But what was nearly as bad as the roots was the tops- especially of the [scotch] pines. the terminal buds of every and of these was broken aut- and by the way I do not believe that you selected these (the [sootoh]) and I am sure that I did not I have been "[Bandsoaping]" for my [illegible] and gifting some good orders for you therby which I will send you by next mail Asa
