Effingham Ill 20 Oct 1858 Dr John A Kennicott West Northfield Ill Dear Sir. I write to ask you for a Nursery Catalogue. I desire to start a nursery in the spring if on examination I do not find it a task beyond my ability. I am not as well acquainted with the matter as I should be, but I have some inducements to try. There will not be a great sale for trees or plants soon, more than I could supply. Still our people are awaking to the importance of fruit culture & are urging me to undertake. May I ask you also if, should I find it necessary, I have the privilege of seeking your advice on any topic that may come up in my Nursery Experience. G C Van Allen
