Dearest Bell,

Forgive me this time and teach me by your example how to do better in future

Ah, you rogue! and so, as soon as you heard or "suspected" that I was going to get married you take the liberty to avail yourself of my implied permission and proceed instanter to give away what is none of yours to give - your heart and hand. Have you forgotten that I have your willing promise duly recorded that name but me - your "Dearest[underlined] Dear Uncle" shall have the bestowal of these precious gifts, and[underlined] that[underlined] they[underlined] shall[underlined] not[underlined] be[underlined] bestowed[underlined] upon[underlined] a[underlined] Southerner[underlined]? Oh, you wished girl! do you ever expect that your Dear Uncle will forgive you. or have any confidence in you or ever again put my trust in the word of a woman? Yes you hussy you do

expect it, and what's more you know[underlined] that he will, and so you go and do just as you please without minding your promises or your good natured uncle eith[er?]

And so you are going to make a [illegible] - wife[underlined] I mean, of yourself? Do you think that you are old enough or wise enough to make a wife, to be a mother or to play the woman[underlined]? Ah, Bell, do not take a step rashly or without consideration that you can never[underlined] recall[underlined]. If you asked it I should advise you to wait till you know the world better, till you know yourself better - till you have tried him[underlined] and prov[en?][underlined] him. If he loves you he can wait. if you value your own happiness and his - in short if your love is reasonable and pure, you can wait till time ripens your mind & your af-fections. But for Gods sake Bell, if you do[underlined] not[underlined] love him let[underlined] that[underlined] end[underlined] it[underlined].

Well, "and why dont I tell you something about myself," eh? and - - the[underlined] other[underlined] one[underlined] Now just open your ears and I'll tell you all - no, not all, but "something" Here it is then - I am[underlined] agoing to get married. The next new moon will prob-ably be my Honey Moon, for by that time I shall have made - a Benedit of my-self. My intended is a daughter of Mr. Allen Fisk of Troy New York, and a niece of your Aunt Carrys. She is a very accomplished and intelligent lady, has seen much of the world and proffited by her experience. Her personal apperance is striking. She is tall, but finer looking than handsome. tho most persons call her beautiful; very vivacious and pleasing in her manners, but very sensitive, kind and affectionate in disposition She is a woman of desided character and great energy, is rather ambitious and will try[underlined] to make something of me.

And of his accomplishments is music I may say it is her ruling passion, she is a very fine singer and could make a fortune as an amiture if she had the baldnep to go before the public-by the way, she brings me no Tauer, except the wealth of a good mind and a good heart, -but I dont regret having taken her instead of one of your Southern greens with a plantation of slaves, your now aunts name is Maurie Antoinette, but her feet name by which every badly calls her Nesty-Ryan must not be jelous of the Bell fortune is weak so in my heart and Nesty will respect your car "ner thereof- Tell my Dear Molly that I love and embrace her, and Nestly's that I have not forgotten to her and promise to write to her soon.
