or Justice of such Court certify that he is Clerk of sd Court. Acknowledgements or probates before Judges, State or Federal, out of Court will not do. That tract lies in a thick settlement & if of good quality must be valuable. I believe a deed from Jacob Robertson’s Executors is in a similar situation for 428 acres on Yellow Creek -- Tracts of that size ought to supply two tenants, which can not be done according to the present regulations.

I will transmit a more perfect detail to the board, when I have completed the business of the Survey through the aid of supplies to be forwarded by you for that purpose immediately. Should be glad to know the periods when communications would meet the setting of the board, of you are President “and also of The President of Trustees of the University.”

July 24th 1800

D Sir I wrote you shortly after my appointment as agent to the President & Trustees of the University of North Carolina, that I should accept of that appointment, and progress in the business, as soon as possible. I also, a few days ago, on information of Mr. Tole that you had not Recd my communication, wrote you by Mr. Oliver Smith and requested that the $200 lodged in your hands, might be forwarded immediately to this place. Since writing by Mr. Smith I find that a letter by post will reach you sooner and that it will be in my power to accommodate the remittance, as I hope, more conveniently -- Messrs Tait & Stothart of Nashville have dealings with Ebenezer [Slott?] of Peterburg Virginia. If you will procure them a [?] there, the money will be advanced here as soon as [necessary?] Tait & Stothart are advised that that [?]

passed to their credit at that house -- would it not be advantageous to send that $200 dollars to that place and have it pass unto their credit and pray them to advise recpt Tait & Stothart thereof immediately?
